Indoor Environmental Quality

Reuse or Repurpose items as much as possible. Shop second hand stores or antique stores. This will keep down the landfills. Buy local, it saves on fuel consumption. Watch your energy consumption. Lighting alone uses 33% of our homes energy consumption. Take note of your water consumption. Toilets use 30% of our indoor water usage.

Interior Finishes & Furnishings

Reuse existing furniture or buy products that use natural materials as much as possible. Look for the FSC seal on wood products. Many organic wools or cotton fabrics & fibers are available in products today. Use low to no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints, which are also widely available now. Fortunately, this industry has been very responsive to the call for conservation. Here are some tips for energy effectiveness; Create spaces that maximizes daylight. Provide lighting for Ambient, Task & Accent lighting, not large volumes of space. Use energy efficient lighting equipment. Use light colored surfaces to radiate the quality of light.
